Alaskan Malamute – The Nordic Sled Dog

The Alaskan Malamute is a medium-large to large dog that weighs between 70- 95 pounds and measures up to 25″. They are best known as sled dogs and are used to hard work. They are ideal for cold climates or homes that will keep them cool and dry in hot summers. The Alaskan Malamute has a thick, coarse external coat and wooly, thick undercoat. They are dressed for cold weather. However, you need to make sure that they have a place to get out of the sun and an excess amount of water if you enjoy an Alaskan Malamute and live in a warmer climate.

They come in a variety of colors including solid white, shadings of light to medium gray color, black, black, and red. In animals with shadings, parts of legs, feet, underbody, and part of the face markings are generally white. The AKC doesn’t notice any other solid colors than white.

Alaskan Malamutes are independent, friendly, and dedicated. They are more active as puppies and tend to mellow when they get aged. They are chewers, diggers, and explorers. However, when your Alaskan Malamute is outside, make sure that they cannot dig out of the yard or jump over the wall or fence. They are not good at apartments, small homes, or megacity houses. They love to be outdoors and need a lot of room to play. Since they are extremely sportful as puppies, they would be better for aged children until they become calmer. They work stylishly with other animals and pets when they’re associated at a youngish age. They can be aggressive towards other dogs and can consider small animals pray. This is an ideal dog for a family home that allows a lot of out-of-door time to play and explore.

This breed’s history goes over 2000 years back and is a native of Alaska. They were first used as sled dogs by the Alaskan Malamute Eskimo line. In addition to a companion dog, the Alaskan Malamutes are still used as sled dogs for racing, investigation, and for families living in arctic regions.

As hardworking sled dogs, they are important household animals for families living in cold, snow-covered areas and imperative to their way of life. However, the Alaskan Malamute is a perfect dog for you, if you are looking for an independent but loving companion.
